Reggie Walsh made his debut for Chelsea tonight against Djurgarden, and on TNT Sport they spoke about him pre-game.
Still a few months away from being 17, it’s crazy to imagine how mature for his years the kid must be. This is a special night, as the pundits said:
“It’s a huge night for him and his family, obviously. It would have been a massive honour making his debut last week, but the opportunity to play at Stamford Bridge in front of his family [is even better], I’m sure they’re here watching and so excited,” Joleon Lescott said.
“But he’s not just been “given” an opportunity, he’s made this opportunity for himself, Maresca talked about his quality, but he must also must have a ridiculous mentality because he’s 16 – it’s GCSE time of the year. To have to focus on that and then also to compete with some of the best players, yeah, huge admiration for what he’s achieved.”

Joe Cole is working as a pundit with Lescott and had his own thoughts and his own memories of being a wonderkid breaking through:
“I was watching him in the warmup, the way he moves the ball, you can tell a footballer. He was comfortable, used it, we’ve seen some clips of him – he nearly scored with his first touch last week, he struck it lovely,” the former Chelsea winger said.
“I’ve been in those shoes where you’re coming out and there’s expectation for you… your dreams are there, you’ve probably grown up sitting in one of the seats in this stand thinking ‘I’d love to be on that pitch’ and then all of a sudden you’re here, you’re here with the heroes you’ve grown up with.”
