Barcelona players veto €85m move for Premier League champion – Report

FC Barcelona are just a few key reinforcements away from having a squad fully equipped to compete on all fronts. With the team’s core firmly in place, the responsibility now falls to sporting director Deco to complete the puzzle.
One position that Barcelona are very evidently trying to reinforce is the left wing. Despite having Raphinha, who has played brilliantly in that position this season, the club want to bring in another option that would give the Brazilian a breather.
One name that has been doing the rounds over the past week is Liverpool star Luis Diaz, who has just lifted the Premier League title with Liverpool. However, as per Caught Offside via El Nacional, several Barcelona players in the dressing room have expressed their desire to veto this transfer.

The report mentions that some players in the Barcelona team have felt that it does not make sense to be spending €85m to sign the Colombian winger. The Catalan club is just coming out of a financial crisis and this kind of money is not warranted.
Diaz has had a mixed season at Merseyside, starting the season very well. However, through the middle phase of the campaign, he completely fell off, after being asked by Arne Slot to play in an unfamiliar striker position.
However, the 28-year-old has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, increasing his goal-scoring numbers. Overall, he has 17 goals and 8 assists in 49 games across all competitions, somewhat similar to that of Ferran Torres.

While Luis Diaz is undeniably a talented player, questions remain over whether he is the right fit, both tactically and financially, for Barcelona’s evolving project. At 28 and with a hefty €85 million price tag, the Colombian winger offers limited upside compared to the younger, more versatile profiles the club should be targeting.
With resistance reportedly coming from within the dressing room, this may be a move best left unexplored. The pressure is now on Deco to make smart, strategic additions and the left wing deserves a solution that aligns with both the club’s needs and long-term ambitions.
