Brennan Johnson paid tribute to his skipper and goal provider Heung-Min Son after his first double in a Spurs shirt laid the foundations for our 4-1 win against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Saturday.
It was the classic one-two from the pair twice in the space of eight minutes at Portman Road.
First up, Sonny raced on to Archie Gray’s pass, squared up Ben Godfrey and Dara O’Shea, produced a classic Sonny step over before firing a low cross that Brennan slid home on 18 minutes. Rodrigo Bentancur’s pass then sent Sonny into the box again and this time, with options, he rolled into Brennan to convert from 12 yards for 2-0.
Omari Hutchinson replied for the hosts before the break, and they then had a goal disallowed on the hour, but we finished stronger with Djed Spence’s first Premier League goal (77 minutes) and another beauty from Dejan Kulusevski (84) securing a third successive league win.
Speaking on our Review Show from Portman Road, Brennan said: “Sonny was unbelievable today. Straight from the off, Sonny and Destiny were working really well, and I could kind of smell that they were getting in a lot, so it was up to me just to be on the end of it. You know when Sonny gets into the moments where it's easy to feel the pressure, he stays so cool, it’s a great pick out and I was just happy to be there.
“We do a lot of work on it, looking at each player individually, what they like to do and it's more just being there just in case, because with Sonny, for example, he’s just as good on his left foot as he is with his right, so once he shifts it to his left, I know I have to be there because the ball's going to be in the right position.”
As for the win and the performance, Brennan added: “It’s a massive win and a great performance. I thought we showed a bit of everything. We went 2-0 up, conceded, which was disappointing, but the mentality to fight after that and not concede another… then we showed our quality at the end. It all shows where we want to go. I’m really happy for the win.”
