Players unavailable
“The entire squad is available, except for Enzo due to his suspension.”
Villarreal CF’s significance to him
“It is a special and important game. Special because Villarreal were a key club in my training as a coach. They are club that I will always be grateful to for giving me the opportunity to integrate into professional football. Gratitude is essential. I will be eternally grateful. It is also special because it is an important game in the Valencia region, and because -although we are fighting for different objectives- getting a good result is tremendously important. Their position in the table corresponds to the merit of what they do on the pitch. They defend and attack well, with a great coach and players and with a club management model that has given them a lot of success.”
Team
“We have played 4 home games in LALIGA and 2 away since I came in. We drew against Sevilla FC in a game in which I liked the intensity of the team, and then against FC Barcelona which was a blow for us. In the Copa del Rey we won away from home and tomorrow we have the chance for the team to continue to mature. To achieve our objective, Mestalla alone is not enough. The team have trained with the intensity and concentration that playing away requires.”
Marcelino
“His CV speaks for itself. I don't need to praise the career of a coach who is in the elite. He has a virtue, which is getting the maximum performance out of each squad he coaches. He does it very well and that is why he has the CV he has put together.”
Preparation for the match
“We have prepared the match with the utmost ambition and responsibility. There has been analysis of the opponents and ourselves. Knowing that the approaches are only starting points, the important thing is going to be the ability to work hard, make a big effort and be comfortable in difficult moments... Villarreal CF are the third top goalscorers in the league. That speaks of the attacking side of their game, and it is a match in which getting a good result there demands the best of us.”
Pepelu
“Pepelu seems very prepared. He appears to have maximum commitment and wants to help the team by getting back to his best. When a player shows you that, you have the confidence that things will work out.”
Enzo Barrenechea
“He is a player who has been very important for us. But a squad cannot be composed of just one player per position. A good squad is one in which the identity and values of the team do not change depending on who plays.”
A message to the fans
“Messages are not useful to them ahead of a game. They want to see our response on the pitch. I have seen very good work from the team, for them to have a good response tomorrow on the pitch The players are aware that to get a good result tomorrow they have to give their best.”
Villarreal CF
“There is no envy from us in anything. I value facts. That management model has worked for them and it has allowed them to overcome their difficulties. They were relegated and, with their management, they were able to turn that difficulty into them coming back very strong.”
Valencia CF’s model
“Each club is different. Valencia CF are a club with history, with a recent Copa del Rey win, with greatness as a hallmark and with a huge impact on society. That makes us have the greatest sense of responsibility. Valencia CF are focused on a return to that essence and to that greatness that the club represents.”
Diakhaby
“He is in a position to compete with the group. Because he has been out for so long, he requires us to be able to manage the workload in training. It’s a situation that many players require, with individualisation of the work in training.”
Iván Jaime
“To be a competitive team, you have to have many starters. I perceive that any of my players have the potential to be starters. Based on the performance they display, they get more starts or fewer starts. Any player on the team has the potential to be a starter. The quality he has between the lines and versatility could be how we define him as a footballer.”
Max Aarons
“I see any of my players as being ready to feature as starters.”
Motivation
“The motivation for tomorrow is the maximum it can be, as well as our pride and responsibility.”
