One former Chelsea player has made a brutal admission about one current player who he cannot see getting in the first team right now.
As we know, Chelsea have a very large squad these days and Enzo Maresca is lucky enough to be able to select two different starting Xl’s, one for the league, and one for cup games.
The Blues head coach has selection headaches every single game now, but it’s the kind of problems that top managers will like to have. Maresca has a host of quality to chose from, and he even has players such as Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku regularly sat on the bench for league games right now.
Nkunku has an eye for goal, but former Chelsea player Jason Cundy believes he has not done enough in more recent games to get a shot of a starting place in the first team that starts league games.
Nkunku not doing enough
In words picked up by SPTC today, Cundy said:
“He had his chance against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, and he was disappointing. When those opportunities come, you’ve got to make sure you take them. We’ve seen in the Conference League he can score goals. It was very noticeable that he didn’t celebrate the goals he scored [against Noah].
“He must be incredibly frustrated, but right now I can’t make a case for him being in the team. I can’t naturally put him in right now.”
I do think though that Nkunku just hasn’t really been handed enough minutes in more recent games to prove himself and also, he’s rarely being put in his best position, which is in the 10 role rather than an out and out striker.
Nkunku certainly knows where the net is though, but he has more work to do here.
