Inter Defender Set to Join Monza on Loan

Inter teenage defender Tomas Palacios is reportedly on the verge of joining Serie A relegation fighters Monza. According to TMW and several other local outlets, the Argentine center-back is on his way to Stadio Brianteo, where he should stay until the end of the season.

Palacios swapped Independiente Rivadavia for Inter last summer. Despite dashing out €6.5 million plus €4.5 million in bonuses to lure him to Giuseppe Meazza, Simone Inzaghi has barely given the 21-year-old a chance to play this season.

The Talleres youth academy graduate has only made two cameo appearances in Serie A for a combined ten minutes. Therefore, Inter will send him out on loan to get regular first-team football and gain the experience needed to bolster his case at the San Siro.

Inzaghi refused to sanction Palacios’ exit at first. With Francesco Acerbi on the sidelines since November and Yann Bisseck recently joining him on the treatment table, Inter are short-handed at the back. Benjamin Pavard’s return from injury couldn’t have been timed any better.

However, Inter must still add to their defensive options down the final stretch of the January transfer window as they battle on multiple fronts. Bologna star Sam Beukema tops the club’s wish list, but he probably won’t leave Renato Dall’Ara before the summer.

Meanwhile, Palacios’ potential departure could make room for another defensive signing. But the player has yet to decide whether he wants to leave for Monza. Time is the factor, so he can’t think for long.
