Southampton boss Ivan Juric has admitted that the injury absence of attack duo, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Tyler Dibling, has affected them severely.
It has been another day, another loss for Southampton FC. But, while disappointment is natural, it feels unwise to expect anything better from the unit, which lacked three starters straight away.
Ivan Juric's men lined up against Newcastle without star players Kamaldeen Sulemana, Tyler Dibling, and their preferred keeper Aaron Ramsdale. Unsurprisingly, they lost 3-1 at home.
Though the scoreline conveys a poor defensive display from the Saints, in reality, it was the other way around. In fact, had not McCarthy stepped up on a few occasions, it might have been worse for Southampton.
While the 35-year-old did a part of his job, it was their attack force that looked blunt once again.
So much so that had Tyler Dibling not been sidelined with injury, with Sulemana upfront, the result would have been different. Understandably, boss Ivan Juric's opinion resonated with the fans, who missed the duo terribly.
As per the Daily Echo, upon being asked how difficult it has been without the duo, Juric said: "I think that with Kamaldeen and Tyler Dibling, we found our way a little bit of playing. We had these two guys against Swansea and Manchester United, we lost them. Now we will see the progression with their injuries."
Further, Ivan Juric optimistically hinted at a return of Sulemana and Ramsdale next week against Ipswich. But for now, Dibling's return still feels far off.
In the meantime, it is more than necessary for Southampton's attack force to start clicking together. If things don't improve, sadly, Juric's job may be in danger as well.
What remains to be seen is whether Ramsdale and Sulemana's return can make things easy for Juric, or if the start of a new era altogether is knocking on the doors of St. Mary's.
