The Premier League Big Six did everything that they could to prevent the Newcastle United takeover.
Anybody would think they were scared of their cosy cartel finally having a little bit of competition…
Unable to stop the takeover, the Premier League Big Six have then continued off the pitch to do all they can to try and stop Newcastle United, or at the very least, slow NUFC down.
What about on the pitch though?
How has this worked out for the Premier League Big Six against Newcastle United?
Or of more interest to ourselves as fans, how are Eddie Howe’s NUFC side getting on against the Premier League Big Six?
After all, if Eddie Howe and Newcastle United are to really compete, these are the games that in reality you have to start winning on a regular basis, or at least not losing.
We are now just over 40 months past the Newcastle United takeover.
These are the last ten results against the Premier League Big Six clubs…
2024/25 season – Eddie Howe Newcastle United team v Premier League Big Six:
Newcastle 2 Tottenham 1
Newcastle 1 Man City 1
Chelsea 2 Newcastle 1
Newcastle 2 Chelsea 0
Newcastle 1 Arsenal 0
Man U 0 Newcastle 2
Tottenham 1 Newcastle 2
Arsenal 0 Newcastle 2
Played 10 Won 7 Drawn 2 Lost 1 Goals Scored 18 Goals Conceded 8
This is quite phenomenal from Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players.
Especially when you consider the huge advantage the Premier League Big Six still have, when it comes to their revenues, able to spend far more than Newcastle United on transfer fees and wages.
The recent 2025 Deloitte report outlined how Newcastle United are continuing to improve off the pitch.
Whilst on it, the evidence is plain to see.
To win seven and lose only one of the ten matches this season against the Premier League Big Six is astonishing, especially when you factor in that Newcastle have scored at least once in all ten of these matches, whilst also clean sheets in five of the ten games.
These next two weeks see Newcastle United with Man City away and Liverpool away (Forest at home in between). Eddie Howe and his side have shown they can give anybody a game, here’s hoping it is more of the same against these Premier League Big Six teams.
