How do we gauge it?

Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?

For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.

How many matches you are winning!

So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…

We are now seven months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of Monday 17 March 2025):

26 and 4 Liverpool

23 and 10 Newcastle United

19 and 8 Forest

18 and 10 Man City

17 and 7 Brighton

16 and 9 Villa

16 and 9 Fulham

16 and 10 Chelsea

16 and 10 Palace

15 and 10 Bournemouth

15 and 14 Brentford

15 and 17 Tottenham

14 and 14 Man U

10 and 15 West Ham

10 and 19 Wolves

9 and 11 Everton

7 and 22 Leicester

6 and 26 Southampton

5 and 19 Ipswich

As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches.

It is still only Liverpool who have won more domestic matches this season than Eddie Howe’s side.

The gap closing to three after Wembley yesterday, due to that magnificent NUFC win and performance. Whisper it, but could Newcastle United even close that gap further in the weeks ahead…? Plus, Newcastle have one more Premier League match to play compared to the scousers.

Newcastle now with four more wins than Arsenal and Forest, five more than Man City, six or more than the rest.

Yet even only a week ago (before West Ham away), or even between that win over the Hammers and ahead of Wembley, you bizarrely had some Newcastle United fans still determined to make out that this is some kind of disappointing season,

Eddie Howe somehow having underachieved.

Even though it is the exact opposite of that, Eddie Howe performing minor miracles against the odds, the same as the last two seasons.

Now having won a Cup Final and if winning the game in hand, Newcastle United would be fourth in the Premier League!
