Real Madrid’s season across all departments has been headlined by subtle imbalances that have destabilised the team as a whole.
Defensively, the primary bottleneck has been a gross lack of resources as Los Blancos continue to reel under a severe injury crisis.
In midfield, the imbalance is owing to the lack of a creative passer and line-breaking player who can dictate the flow of the game, a void created by Toni Kroos’ departure.
The attack, however, has been the biggest problem with Kylian Mbappe’s arrival largely destabilising the setup. After all, the Frenchman demands a role on the left wing which is Vinicius Jr’s niche and is reportedly sick of playing as a striker.

As relayed in a recent report by The Athletic, Vinicius Jr. will continue to play as Real Madrid’s left-winger and his situation will be unaffected by Mbappe’s incompatibility in the centre.
The club value the Brazilian highly and know that he is their biggest difference-maker in the final third. As the team’s most important player, his comfort is prioritised.
Indeed, Vinicius and Mbappe may transiently switch positions on the field depending on the game situation and buildup phase, but it remains clear that Mbappe will continue to play as a number 9. No change is expected in their primary roles.
With Vinicius Jr already operating at a stunning level this season, the pressure is mounting on Mbappe to adapt to his new role and start delivering results. Every passing day adds to the noise around his signing being a failure and the player must step up soon.
After a two-week break from football and not joining up with the French national team, Mbappe will look to get past his mental fragility and put his best foot forward against Leganes.
