Roma wingback Nicola Zalewski has made up his mind to join Inter Milan, whether that is this month or at the end of the season.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Pole is Inter’s first choice to replace Tajon Buchanan, with Cristiano Biraghi Plan B.
The stars just seem to have aligned for Inter to go after Nicola Zalewski.
The 23-year-old has looked to be on the way out at Roma for some time.
Last summer, Zalewski had appeared close to the exit door. The Giallorossi had been trying to sell him due to his contract situation, with his deal running out at the end of next June.
Zalewski rejected offers to leave, however, particularly from Galatasaray. That meant that the Polish international headed into this season in the final year of his deal.
This January could represent the final chance Roma have to cash in on Nicola Zalewski.
The 23-year-old has stayed put so far in the transfer window. However, in the last few days of the window, a bit opportunity has emerged.

Inter are looking to replace Tajon Buchanan, with the Canadan heading to Villarreal on loan.
And Zalewski is the perfect candidate from the Nerazzurri’s perspective.
The Roma wingback is much younger than the backup target, Fiorentina’s Cristiano Biraghi. That is in line with owners Oaktree Capital’s insistence on lowering the average age of the sqaud.
Therefore, Inter have made their interest in signing Zalewski perfectly clear.
And for his part, the Pole wants the move to Inter. He has rejected a bid from Marseille, reports the Corriere.
Roma could sell Zalewski outright to Inter in the last days of the transfer window. This would be for a cut-price fee of around €500,000, reports the Corriere, reflecting his contract status.
Alternatively, Roma could extend Zalewski’s contract and send him to Inter on loan. Then there would be a purchase option worth around €6-7 million next summer.
But on the other hand, if Zalewski does not join Inter this month, he wants to join next summer.
In that event, the Polish international would be able to simply join the Nerazzurri on a free transfer.
Inter Milan have certainly had a propensity for capitalizing on free transfer opportunities in recent years.
