This particular player and his 2024 team did not fare too well against the New York Red Bulls. As we know, the Los Angeles Galaxy did as they won in the MLS Finals against them.

The Columbus Dispatch was one of the first outlets to report that 'The Crew are trading forward Christian Ramirez to the Los Angeles Galaxy for up to $500,000 in general allocation money (GAM), with $250,000 guaranteed."

While the Los Angeles Galaxy lost one champion at the forward position when they traded Dejan Joveljic to Sporting Kansas City last week, the gained another former champion to play the same spot. In return for Joveljic, the Galaxy received $4,000,000 in the first-ever cash-for-trade deal in MLS.

This also marks the second year in a row that the LA Galaxy's front office has acquired a former champion. Last winter, the team added goalkeeper John McCarthy from rival LAFC. He was the 2023 MLS Cup Finals MVP.

What made Ramirez appealing to the Los Angeles Galaxy?

For starters, a striker was needed to replace Joveljic. The Serbian forward had 21 goals and seven assists between both the regular season and postseason for the Galaxy.

Not only did Joveljic score the lone goal of the MLS Western Conference Finals against the Seattle Sounders, but he added one of the two goals in the Finals to defeat the Red Bulls.

Ramirez has produced at the top level before in his career. During his two years with the Crew, the former Abedeen FC star scored 16 times.

Two of his most memorable scores game when Columbus needed game winners in the 2023 MLS Eastern Conference Semifinals against Orlando City and the Conference Finals against FC Cincinnati.

Thus, his ability to find the back of the net when his team is depending on it is rather comparable to that of Joveljic's. Ramirez has recorded 51 goals during his MLS career.

His best scoring year in the league came in his debut season with Minnesota United FC. In 2017, the now 33-year-old tallied 14 goals in his rookie season.

Furthermore, Ramirez is a native of Santa Ana, California. His resume and skill set fits the win-now mindset for the Los Angeles Galaxy to repeat as champions. This is a feat that has not been done in te league since the Galaxy last did so in 2011 & 2012.

It is unsure if Ramirez will take the field for the Los Angeles Galaxy when they play their second preseason game in Indio, California on Saturday against Charlotte FC.

However, when the striker is ready, he surely will star nicely alongside his new crew of Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Pec, Marco Reus and more.
