The first season back in Ligue 1 for Angers SCO has been anything but a memorable one for the club based in Pays de la Loire.

Alexandre Dujeux’s men are still the only side in the French top flight this season without a victory as they prepare to face AS Saint-Étienne on Saturday at Stade Raymond Kopa.

Their history against Les Verts does not suggest that elusive first win will come this weekend, with Les Scoïstes accumulating an 18%-win rate against them across all competitions.

The only side currently in Ligue 1, against whom they have the worst record, is Paris Saint-Germain (9%). This is the fourth time historically that Angers have gone winless after eight top-flight matchdays, with the other occasions being in 1959-60, 1963-64 and 1965-66.

If there is some good news, the current crop of Angers players and their supporters can take away from their tough start to the season; though, it’s the fact that in the previous three occasions that the club were in their current predicament, they were able to avoid relegation.

Not since the 1993-94 campaign have they been relegated in their first season back in the French top-flight.
