AS Monaco’s big night at the San Siro was over before it ever truly began. By the 16th minute, Les Monégasques were two goals and a man down to Inter Milan as they ultimately went on to lose 3-0 in their final UEFA Champions League ‘League Phase’ fixture. Speaking post-match, Adi Hütter said that he believed that “nervousness” played a role.
“Our start was a bit of a nightmare,” began the Monaco manager in a post-match press conference, attended by Get French Football News. “Some players were a bit nervous to play in this stadium, on this stage. For some, it was the first time. There are lots of young players here and for some of them, it was the first time on such a stage,” he added.
Hütter did, however, praise his side’s character for limiting the damage. “We showed character. Facing Inter 11 versus 11 is hard enough, so we showed character [in the second half],” he added.
