Ruben Amorim appears increasingly unlikely to put Marcus Rashford back in his matchday squad, even as Manchester United continue to lose games.
The forward was left out of the side that lost to Wolves on Boxing Day as Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan both scored at Molineux to inflict the fifth defeat of the Amorim rein.
Man Utd have lost three consecutive matches, which has seen them eliminated from the League Cup and drop down to 14th in the Premier League table.
The Red Devils did beat Manchester City the first time Rashford was excluded from the squad, but they have looked toothless in attack as the Portuguese tactician struggles to get a tune out of his team.
Following the defeat to Wolves, Amorim said the situation with Rashford has not changed while adding he plans on persisting with his three-at-the-back setup.
“It’s always the same reason it’s going to be,” he said. “We have to be the same professionals, the same guys, winning or losing.
“Losing, I have to be stronger. I will continue with my idea until the end.”
Asked if Rashford not shown him anything different since being left out, the 39-year-old replied: “If he’s not here, you can make your mind up.”
Man Utd were dealt a major setback shortly after the interval when captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a second bookable offence, which Wolves took full advantage of to leave the visitors with no points to take home.
“Of course, when you lose, when we don’t win, it’s a step back. It was really hard with the sending off,” Amorim said.
“The goal was similar against Tottenham. Then, we tried. Even with one less guy we tried to and I think we were near something but then Wolves scored the second one. Then, in the end, we tried everything and the transition was 2-0. For us, let’s continue.
