The 2024 summer transfer window proved to be a successful one for Blackburn Rovers in the eyes of many.

Having only just avoided relegation from the Championship on the final day of last season, and with the departure of Golden Boot winner Sammie Szmodics, the pressure was on to get things right.

There will also have been scrutiny on the club's new Director of Football operations - former striker Rudy Gestede - and the returning Head of Recruitment John Park during their first summer in the role.

In the end though, things would work out well in the market for Blackburn, with nine new first-team additions strengthening the squad available to head coach John Eustace.

A number of those signings have already made positive impressions at Ewood Park, helping the club to a strong start to the season.

Now, attention will be starting to turn towards the January transfer window, when the club will be looking to enjoy a similarly productive period in the market.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at three players who should be on Blackburn Rovers' transfer shortlist ahead of the turn of the year, right here.

Augustus Kargbo

It was reported last month that the Ewood Park club are keen to sign Cesena winger Augustus Kargbo in January, and that could well be a sensible move.

There are a number of wide players who are set to be out of contract with Rovers at the end of this season, such as Tyrhys Dolan, Arnor Sigurdsson and Ryan Hedges.

Bringing in someone such as Kargbo would therefore add some much-needed depth out wide, and there are suggestions he will be sold at the turn of the year, which could make this a feasible deal.

The Sierra Leone international has also scored two goals and provided two assists in eight league games in the Italian second-tier this season, so could be an effective option for Blackburn too.

Paudie O'Connor

Behind the first choice pairing of Hayden Carter and Dom Hyam, there is only the veteran duo of Danny Batth and Kyle McFadzean for John Eustace to call on at centre-back.

While Batth initially did well during a recent run in the side, he then seemed to tire in later games, so a younger option could be a sensible move.

That may come in the form of Lincoln City's Paudie O'Connor, with reports late last month claiming that Blackburn are among the clubs interested in the 27-year-old ahead of January.

Not only would he provide a greater variety of depth when it comes to the central defensive options, but with his Lincoln contract expiring this summer, he could also be an affordable target for Rovers.

Anfernee Dijksteel

An injury to Callum Brittain means Hayden Carter has spent the last five games playing out of position for Eustace's side at right-back.

While he did well at times, he also struggled on other occasions, meaning another experienced, natural option in that position could be needed for Blackburn.

One player who could be worth considering for that job, is Middlesbrough's Anfernee Dijksteel, who has made over 100 appearances at this level already.
