Although it has been only a few weeks since the summer transfer window closed, the sporting department of FC Barcelona still has a lot of work to do in the coming months.

There are some areas of the team that the Catalans would be looking to strengthen in the coming transfer windows, but they have an even more urgent task on their hands: the renewals of players whose contracts are ending in 2026.

According to SPORT, there are up to 11 players who have their current contracts expiring in 2026, and the Blaugranes are expected to make some drastic decisions regarding these players in November.

The club has only a limited space in their wage bill, and thus all of these players cannot be renewed. Still, negotiations are currently open with multiple players, and the club will start making decisions about the futures of these players to avoid having to let go of them for free.

There are up to four central defenders who fall in this group, as the contracts of Inigo Martinez, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, and Eric Garcia are all expiring in 2026.

The former Athletic Club defender’s contract will be renewed on a year-on-year basis, and this negotiations will begin with him only next summer. The club is also quite satisfied with Eric Garcia, and can extend his contract.

The club is yet to open negotiations with Christensen, while Ronald Araujo has not yet accepted the new contract offered to him by the club. Barcelona will put these two players on the market if they have not renewed before next summer.

In the midfield, Pedri and Gavi are the two players whom the club considers essential for the future, and with whom agreements can be arrived at at the earliest. Negotiations are already open with Pedri, while Gavi is currently fully focusing on his recovery, and will think about his renewal only after returning to the pitch.

Frenkie de Jong is also yet to respond to Barcelona’s offer of a new contract. The Catalans want to arrive at an agreement with him before the end of this year and will put him on the market if an agreement is not reached before next summer.

Another player about whom Barcelona will make a decision soon is Inaki Pena, whose renewal will depend on his performances in the next few weeks and months.

The Blaugranes can also renew Pablo Torre, whom they believe to be a good asset for the future, despite the overbooking of midfielders in the team. A decision on Hector Fort’s future will only be made in the last year of his contract.

Barcelona are quite calm about the renewal of Lamine Yamal, with whom they already have an agreement in place to extend his contract till 2030. The youngster himself is quite comfortable at the Catalan club and is not thinking about a move.
