A leading member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona leads all of La Liga when it comes to passing stats in the opposition’s half thus far this season.
The player in question? Iñigo Martínez.
Stopper Iñigo is for his part of course in the midst of a stellar opening to the new campaign.
Having established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet of new head coach Hansi Flick, the 33-year-old’s leadership has proven key to Barcelona opening up an early lead atop the Spanish top-flight table.
And yet, perhaps more impressive than any other aspect of Iñigo’s game thus far this term has been his passing.
The former Athletic Club man has been nothing short of superb with the ball at his feet, often kickstarting Barca’s attacking sequences by way of spraying passes out of defence.
And, as alluded to above, as much is very much reflected in the statistics.
As revealed by statisticians Opta, Iñigo, with 403, has racked up more successful passes in the opposing team’s half than any other player in La Liga in 2024/25.
Close behind the stopper is Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, with another Barcelona standout, in Pedri, rounding out the podium spots.
