As we get set to enter the New Year, FC Barcelona have been greeted by some positive news surrounding the fitness of one of their star players: Lamine Yamal.

The 17-year-old sensation suffered an ankle injury earlier this month, causing him to miss the match against Atletico Madrid right before the Christmas break. But it appears that a comeback is on the horizon for the La Masia gem.

Lamine Yamal to resume group training tomorrow

Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, Lamine Yamal is expected to join the group’s training on Wednesday afternoon, 1 January, at 17:00, marking the opening session of 2025.

The 17-year-old wing-wizard was only present symbolically at the open training session at the Estadi Johan Cruyff this past Sunday. Tomorrow, he will start working with the rest of the group again.

The idea is for Lamine to make his comeback in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club in Saudi Arabia on January 8, although it is highly unlikely that he will start in that match.

Before that game, Barça face UD Barbastro in the Copa del Rey Round of 32 clash on January 4, but as things stand, it is likely that Lamine will not be travelling for that game even though he will have completed three full training sessions by the time.

Yamal sustained the ankle injury on December 15, during the La Liga match between Barcelona and Leganes.

Tests revealed a grade 1 sprain to his right ankle ligament and the estimated recovery time was between three and four weeks.

By January 8, the date of the Super Cup semi-final, more than three weeks will have passed since the injury, making Lamine’s return feasible without taking risks.
