Borussia Dortmund picked up two injury scares just days before their crunch clash against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, as Niklas Süle and Maximilian Beier were both forced off on Saturday evening.

The injury concerns appear to be mounting for Borussia Dortmund once again, with Niklas Süle and Maximilian Beier in danger of joining the likes of Waldemar Anton, Julian Brandt, and Karim Adeyemii on the sidelines.

Both Süle and Beier were forced off during Borussia Dortmund’s 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening. The former appeared to be in real anguish before he was taken off in the closing stages, having only recently made his return from injury last weekend during the Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich.

Nuri Sahin stated after the game that Süle may have suffered a repeat of his previous ankle injury that kept him out for seven matches.

Beier was also forced to come off on Saturday, but BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl expressed hope after the game that the forward could be fit in time for the Barcelona clash on Wednesday evening.

The injury suffered by Süle comes at a bad time for Borussia Dortmund, with Waldemar Anton also out of action due to a muscle injury. This leaves Nico Schlotterbeck as the only fit senior centre-back in the BVB squad.

Emre Can came on to replace Süle against Gladbach. And the BVB captain would be the obvious option to come into the starting XI against Barcelona if his compatriot is unable to feature.

Nuri Sahin will likely give an update on the status of Beier and Süle, as well as the likes of Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
