Celtic are not far away from securing their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title. They hold a 16-point lead over the Rangers and realistically, the result of this weekend's Glasgow Derby will not have an impact on the race to win the league. Despite that, the Hoops will surely be keen to earn all three points on the day.

Firstly, every Glasgow Derby is a must-win in the eyes of the supporters. Secondly, because the Hoops will want to avenge their one-sided 3-0 defeat at Ibrox, the last time these two sides met.

Celtic have a few fitness issues heading into the game though. And it looks like one player might even require surgery.

The player in question is none other than Liam Scales. The Irish defender might end up needing to undergo surgery to take care of an issue, although no decision has been made in that regard. As reported by The Celtic Way, Brendan Rodgers said about the matter:

"Liam Scales, he's obviously had an issue with his cheekbones, so we're just waiting to finalise whether he needs an operation or not."

Scales was an integral part of this Celtic team last season and was their most regular defender. In this campaign, the story has been very different, thanks to the signing of Auston Trusty from Sheffield United in the summer.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Trusty have been Rodgers' preferred centre-back duo. That has meant that Scales has had to spend a lot of time sitting on the bench, as the third choice behind the two regular starters.

There is no doubt that Scales is someone that Rodgers trusts though. He can step into the team, for either Carter-Vickers or Trusty, at any time. So, the manager will surely want to have that option available to him. Maik Nawrocki has barely been in his plans.

Hopefully, Scales' issue is not serious and he won't need to undergo surgery. We can only wish him the best of luck and a speedy recovery.
