Bruno Fernandes has done again, leaving his Manchester United teammates with a man down against Wolves.
The Red Devils headed to the Molineux for what was deemed to be a must-win match for the club to pick themselves up in the standings, especially following their weekend humbling at the hands of Bournemouth.
And yet, they returned home empty-handed, partially due to Fernandes’ reckless challenges. The Man Utd captain got himself booked in the first half as he attempted to halt Matheus Cunha’s run. But while adopting a more cautious approach would been a good idea at that stage, the Portuguese couldn’t resist making a rash tackle on Nelson Semedo after being dispossessed.
So due to two needless challenges, the 30-year-old was given his marching orders in the 47th minute, leaving United with a numerical disadvantage for almost an entire half.

Afterwards, it didn’t take the hosts too long to take the lead, with Cunha pouncing on United’s woeful set-piece defending to score from a direct corner-kick. In the dying embers of the match, the Brazilian unselfishly laid the ball in the path of Hwang Chee-chan who sealed the win for Wolves with a second goal.
Therefore, Bruno emerged as the ultimate culprit in the defeat, and not for the first time this season. In fact, the former Sporting CP and Sampdoria man has now been astonishingly sent off three times this season, and we still haven’t reached the halfway point of the campaign!
The playmaker was shown a straight red card in the 0-3 defeat to Tottenham in the Premier League, and earned a second yellow card in the 3-3 draw against Porto in the Europa League.
So as Pubity Sport notes, Fernandes has now become the first Manchester United player in the last sixteen years to be sent off three times across all competitions in a single season.
It would be curious to see if he’ll manage to extend this undesired record with six months remaining in the campaign.
