Ahead of tonight’s clash between AC Milan and Cagliari, Davide Calabria spoke to the media. The right-back is playing from start but he won’t be wearing the captain’s armband.
Due to Emerson Royal’s suspension, Calabria is making his first start in the league since August, keen on proving his qualities to new manager Sergio Conceicao. Interestingly, he won’t wear the captain’s armband this evening as it has been given to Mike Maignan instead.
In his pre-match interview with DAZN, as transcribed by MilanNews, Calabria wasn’t asked about the captain’s armband but made it clear that he’s very happy to play. He also stated that more time is needed with Conceicao before things are perfect.
What is your mood?
“Absolutely positive, it [the Supercoppa] was what we wanted and we got it done. We are super happy but it’s already over and we have been thinking about this match for a few days now.”
How do you feel?
“I feel good, it’s a match like any other, I’ve been playing for many years now. I’m happy and I can’t wait to play.”
What is Conceiçao harping on?
“Everything, from the first to the last thing. We are in the early days, and we still have to get to know each other better and continue the work he has been doing since the beginning”
The captain’s armband has been making the rounds in recent years and there doesn’t seem to be a fixed player anymore. Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao, who are starting today as well, have both worn it several times for example.
