Victor Wanyama only spent a couple of years at Celtic but he will always be remembered fondly by the fans, especially for scoring against FC Barcelona in that iconic win at Parkhead. It has been more than a decade since he left, though, first joining Southampton before ending up at Tottenham Hotspur, a team he helped guide to a Champions League final, and then at Montreal.

Over the years, Wanyama has been linked with a Celtic return on numerous occasions. Especially when he was not getting chances at Tottenham Hotspur.

Wanyama has been without a club since leaving Montreal earlier this year. And now, he is finally set to make a return to Scotland. It won't be for Celtic but the connection is still there.

As reported by the Glasgow Times, Wanyama is undergoing a medical at Dunfermline Athletic. He will join the Scottish Championship club on a deal until the end of the season.

Of course, Neil Lennon was recently appointed as the manager of Dunfermline Athletic. It is hard to imagine that this deal would have come together, if not for his presence at the Championship club.

Lennon and Wanyama worked together at Celtic and found great success. In fact, when the Kenyan midfielder left the club in a £12.5 million transfer to Southampton, it was a Scottish record move at the time.

Now, Wanyama is 33 years of age. It is very clear that he is no longer the player that he once was. The one who was head and shoulders above most in Scotland, shined at the Premier League level and started in a Champions League semi-final.

But he should still have enough in the tank to make a difference in the Scottish second division. Dunfermline Athletic are currently second-bottom in the Championship.
