When Ange Postecoglou left Celtic merely days after guiding them to a treble in order to join Tottenham Hotspur, it was a decision that did not leave the fans happy. But at the end of the day, the majority of them understood why he had taken it. Until 2021, he had not even gotten a proper chance to manage in Europe. So, the Australian did not have a lot of time to check things of his bucket list and managing a top Premier League side surely would have been on there.
It all started so well too. Postecoglou had Tottenham Hotspur playing his famous 'Angeball', and they were looking like Premier League title contenders.
Unfortunately, injuries ended up derailing their form and they have never recaptured it since then. The hope was that things would improve this season but once again, they have had to deal with numerous injury problems, and as a result, Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in the bottom-half of the Premier League table.
In fact, it is somewhat surprising that Postecoglou has not been shown the exit door yet. In the past, they did not show this much patience with managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. But sooner or later, Tottenham Hotspur will have to considering sacking the Australian.
It looks like Spurs have a potential replacement in mind as well. As reported by Football Insider, Mick Brown said:
"Tottenham, unless they put a run together from now to the end of the season, you would think that things might happen [to Postecoglou] there in terms of the sack for the manager.“Silva would certainly be top of the pops in terms of competition for that [managerial] spot, that’s what I’m hearing from my sources there."
Marco Silva has done a great job as the manager of Fulham. So, it is not hard to see why Spurs might have him in their sights.
Of course, Celtic fans would want to see Postecoglou succeed, considering what he brought to Parkhead in his two years there. But unfortunately, things are not going his way at this point in time.
