Despite Borussia Dortmund’s struggles in the Bundesliga, the club’s new signing Serhou Guirassy is having a season to remember, especially in the Champions League.

The French-Guinean striker is currently the top goalscorer in the Champions League this season, with ten goals scored in ten matches, one ahead of Barcelona’s very own Robert Lewandowski.

In a recent interaction with L’Equipe (h/t Mundo Deportivo), though, Guirassy has admitted that Lewandowski is someone he follows closely as he often tunes in for Barcelona’s matches.

Guirassy admits his admiration for Barcelona

“I love Barcelona, I watch all their games,” said Guirassy, who has enjoyed tremendous success since his €18 million move to Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Guirassy faced Barcelona in the Champions League in December, where the Catalans secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Dortmund. The forward scored both of his team’s goals.

In the interview, Guirassy revealed how he had analysed Barcelona by watching their matches, including the defensive combination of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez.

“Before every game, I analyse my opponents. I love Barcelona. I watch all their games. Both Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi play on the edge of offside, so I worked with a video analyst to understand how to counteract them,” he said.

Guirassy went on to talk about Lewandowski, even hailing the former Borussia Dortmund striker as one of his role models.

“The best ‘9’ in history is Ronaldo Nazario, but the one who has had the most influence on my game is Benzema and, after that, Lewandowski. They know how to do everything: dribble, score, combine,” he said.

Guirassy’s statements come just before Borussia Dortmund’s big Round of 16 clash against LOSC Lille tonight, with the former Stuttgart forward looking to extend his scoring tally further.

Barcelona, meanwhile, have their own big game coming up on Wednesday, as they take on SL Benfica – one of Lewandowski’s favourite opponents.
