Chuks Aneke praised teammate Matty Godden as he continued his fine form as Charlton beat Peterborough at The Valley.
Chuks Aneke heaped praise on Charlton Athletic teammate Matty Godden as he continued his fine excellent form with another goal in the win over Peterborough United on Tuesday night.
After a mixed start to the campaign, Nathan Jones’ side have really started to click in the past two months, with the Addicks suffering just one defeat in their last 12.
The Londoners are currently on a six-game unbeaten run, which includes five wins, the latest of which came against the Posh at The Valley.
Macaulay Gillesphey was the hero for Charlton last night, as he scored the 89th minute winner, but it was another good night for Godden, who continued his excellent run in front of goal.
With the score goalless, the ex-Coventry man stepped up to score from the spot to give the hosts the lead with a well-taken penalty, which made it four goals in as many games for the player.
That form has been crucial to helping Charlton into the play-off place, and Godden received praise from fellow forward Aneke, who responded to his Instagram post with ‘on fire’, in reference to the 33-year-old's goalscoring streak.
There was a lot of expectation around Charlton after they brought in Jones, and it was easy to see why, as he is a proven manager at this level given the outstanding work he did with Luton Town in the past.
Having used last season to get to know the squad, the boss made changes to the squad, and whilst they took time to gel, things are really looking good for the club right now.
Of course, there is a lot of football left to be played this season, but Charlton are finding momentum at the right time, and Godden has been key to that, as he has chipped in with some important goals.
But, there’s a good balance to the team, and Aneke’s message here gives an insight into the dressing room spirit, as he is pleased for his mate, even though he may have his place in the XI.
It’s going to be a fierce battle for the play-off places in League One, but Charlton look like a strong outfit right now, and they will feel that promotion to the Championship is a real possibility.
However, their unbeaten run is going to be put to the test this weekend, when they make the trip to St. Andrew’s to take on Birmingham City in what is the hardest fixture in the third tier right now.
