Corentin Tolisso has already returned to the Olymique Lyonnais matchday squad for the match against Stade Rennais on Saturday, less than one week after his season was thought to be over after he was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from AS Saint-Étienne’s Lucas Stassin.
The Olympique Lyonnais vice-captain was stretchered off in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Saint-Étienne. Stassin was initially shown a red card for the challenge before François Letexier was instructed to review the incident by VAR. Letexier then changed his on-field decision, downgrading Stassin’s red to a yellow. The refereeing body have now admitted this was a mistake and the red card should have been awarded.
Tolisso, meanwhile, came off on a stretcher. It was thought that he would be out until the end of the campaign. However, RMC Sport then reported that the injury was not as bad as first feared. Medical sources have evoked a “miracle” with the midfielder avoiding serious injury. The publication understood that there was hope of him returning before the end of the season.
Not only that, Tolisso may now feature less than a week after the event, after he was included in the matchday squad. It remains to be seen, however, if he plays a part against Les Rennais.
