Hajduk Split have reportedly enquired about Lazio midfielder Toma Basic who remains outside the club’s plans.
The Croatian player has been on the Biancocelesti’s books since 2021 when he made the move to the Italian capital following an impressive stint at Bordeaux. However, the 28-year-old never truly flourished at the Stadio Olimpico, so the club sent him to Salernitana on loan last January.
Basic returned to Formello in the summer, but has been an outcast at Marco Baroni’s squad after failing to seal a move.
According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Hajduk are keeping close tabs on the situation as they could be interested in adding the player to Gennaro Gattuso’s ranks. This would be a homecoming for the midfielder who developed his game with the Croatian giants between 2014 and 2018.
As the transfer market insider explains, the main obstacle remains the player’s wages, as Hajduk would struggle to match his current salary (circa €1.6 million per year). Therefore, the two clubs would have to find a compromise on this front to put the deal over the line. The Croatia international is tied to the Biancocelesti with a contract lasting until June 2026.
