AC Milan are in the process of hiring a new sporting director, but a report this afternoon has suggested that it may take longer than initially expected.

The basics of the current Milan situation are clear: the Rossoneri need someone to oversee the new direction of the club to ensure that seasons like this one do not happen again. Whilst the club are not doomed in the Champions League race, there have been too many instances where clarification has been needed, causing rifts.

Then, you can look at the mercato, where ideas have been problematic. Put simply, the Diavolo probably made moves at the wrong time, and this has affected the season.

With that said, though, the club cannot latch onto someone, and the hiring process must be thorough to ensure the elected candidate is the right man to lead Milan back in the right direction.

So, despite the first interviews taking place in the past few days, the club will take a ‘long time’ to make a decision, and Gianluca Di Marzio spoke to Sky (via Milan News) about the situation and the need for patience.

“American businesses tend to do several interviews, several talks, even 7-8-10, to choose members of the sporting area or other areas, so that the ownership can be convinced that he is the right man. Giorgio Furlani took over the sporting director dossier after the first interviews with Cardinale and Ibrahimovic.

“Paratici and Tare have remained together in this race, net of other surprises such as Tony D’Amico or a foreign profile, although I hope not, because the ideal sporting director for Milan today must know Italian football well.

“Furlani has met with Paratici and Tare in recent days. There is no definite choice yet. We will continue to weigh up the pros and cons of the various candidates. I think after Easter. If the choice was already defined, the new manager would be at work, but no one has had the guarantee of an agreement.

“Everyone proposed their own project, their own idea of football. Tare has worked in an environment with a lower budget than Juventus, who could take Cristiano Ronaldo, and Tottenham: they are different profiles, both great professionals who could give Milan what it needs.

“The coach must be chosen after the sporting director: if you choose the coach and then the sporting director, you’re off to a bad start.

What is happening with Ibrahimovic?

“He has been a bit far from Milanello in the last few days, also for health reasons. He’ll reappear in the next few hours, and there too we’ll have to understand the internal balance between the various roles at the club, if we can get along together or if someone’s head will have to fall off.”
