Yesterday, Inter midfielder Calhanoglu gave his testimony to prosecutors as part of an investigation into Nerazzurri ultras group the Curva Nord.

The Nord as well as AC Milan counterparts the Curva Sud are both currently under investigation. This is for alleged illegal activities and mafia ties.

Authorities have already made nineteen arrests of prominent ultras with the Nord and the Sud.

In contrast, there are no cases against either Inter or Milan. Nor with any players or employees of either club.

However, prosecutors have still spoken with members of both clubs. This has been to understand the links that exist between the clubs and their ultras.

Hakan Calhanoglu Risks Fine & Suspension As Part Of Inter Ultras Investigation

Yesterday Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu followed Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi and Vice-President Javier Zanetti in speaking to prosecutors regarding the ultras.

The 30-year-old admitted to some contacts with the ultras. In particular, he spoke about his contacts with ultras leader Marco Ferdico, one of the men who prosecutors arrested.

Calhanoglu told investigators that he had spoken with Ferdico out of gratitude for a banner the ultras had made.

During the devastating earthquake in Syria and Calhanoglu’s home country of Turkey, the ultras had made a prominent banner of support.

Calhanoglu therefore reached out to thank the ultras.

Meanwhile, Calhanoglu also told investigators that he had given shirts to the ultras as a gift. But he claimed that this was part of a charity initiative.

And then, Calhanoglu also vehemently denied having ever gone to dinner with Ferdico or any other ultras.

According to the Gazzetta, the risk of punishment for Calhanoglu would be based around Article 25 of the Sporting Code in Italy.

This prohibits relationships with unsanctioned fan groups.

Calhanoglu could have to pay a fine of €20,000 per that Article. Furthermore, he could receive a suspension of one or more matches.
