Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi wants to sign Albert Gronbaek at the French club.

Accept it or not, we all have felt at times, seeing Southampton's situation, that the youth player model is a big unfit for the Premier League. But, what if I told you it's not a proven reality at all?

Just take a look at what Brighton did under ex-boss Roberto de Zerbi. During 2022-2024, not only did they improve with a young core, but pulled off one of their best Top Flight finishes ever.

Now, had Southampton played their cards right, they could have followed Brighton’s blueprint. Instead, their poor decision-making has left talents like Albert Gronbaek rotting on the bench.

But again, every day is a new one to learn. And who better than the teacher de Zerbi himself to make Southampton realize their biggest recent mistake?

You must've got the hint now, we talk of the injustice Southampton staff did with talented signing Albert Gronbaek. Despite being brought in as a key recruit, the Danish man has been sidelined to a bench warmer role, even after some impressive shows.

Thankfully, Saints fans won’t have to pity the 23-year-old much longer as de Zerbi led Marseille has shown interest in him.

Gronbaek tipped to return to Ligue 1 this summer

As per Coeur Marseillais, the French club is willing to bring back Gronbaek to the Ligue 1 this summer. Seeing him as an exciting attacking candidate, Marseille are eyeing the player's situation for a move.

Now, honestly, this update feels best for Gronbaek, upon whom Southampton had already given up.

In fact, if this deal goes through, it could be the perfect restart for the youngster’s career. Just imagine being under a boss like de Zerbi, playing for a Ligue giant Marseille, very few opportunities can be better than this.

Now, intentional or not, Southampton may have just set up the perfect revenge story for Gronbaek.

While we Saints fans would hope it doesn't hit us back, Gronbaek surely can be the next among the best players to leave Southampton's list.
