Dermot Gallagher reviews controversial decisions in the Premier League after each round of games, on behalf of Sky Sports.
The former top referee has now given his call on these incidents in the Arsenal v Newcastle match.
Dermot Gallagher looking at what happened during key moments in this match at the Emirates.
Newcastle United by far the better team in the first half and creating a lot of very good chances, only to be punished for failing to take any of them by Declan Rice’s long range strike in the second half.
Dermot Gallagher talking to Sky Sports about these Arsenal v Newcastle controversial incidents:
Kai Havertz was given a yellow late on after he caught Fabian Schar in the face with an elbow. Could it be compared to Nicolas Jackson’s red card for Chelsea last week?
DERMOT GALLAGHER:
“It’s not like last week’s at all.
“He’s got his arms up for leverage.
“It’s a flailing arm at most.”
Seconds after coming on Emil Krafth brought down Gabriel Martinelli in a good area. Referee Simon Hooper was adamant Krafth was not denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity, and booked the defender.
DERMOT GALLAGHER:
“I think it’s the right call.
“The referee was very positive wasn’t he?
“He was too far out, it’s a possible dangerous chance, but not obvious.”
INCIDENT:
In Arsenal’s win over Newcastle, Ben White went down in the box in the first half and wanted a penalty as Dan Burn slid into the challenge. Nothing was given.
“Play on. No foul.
“Burn slides in, but he doesn’t catch him. Not a foul.
“Slides in, pulls out. Not a foul.”
