Brentford head coach Thomas Frank believes that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is the "best coach in the world."

The Bees return to Premier League action against the Cityzens on Tuesday night at Gtech Community Stadium (7.30pm kick-off GMT).

City, by their high standards, have had a disappointing season so far and sit sixth, 10 points behind leaders Liverpool, despite winning their last two outings.

Tuesday night's clash also pits the Premier League's two longest-serving managers against each other, with Guardiola joining City in July 2016 and Frank celebrating his sixth anniversary as head coach of the west Londoners in October.

Asked about that fact, as well as Man City's form, Frank said: "Guardiola is, for me, the best coach in the world.

"He’s also the outlier when he is that good because I think he can stay as long as he wants to.

"Of course, everyone needs to perform - even Pep and he says that himself - but he’s that good that he can come up with solutions.

"I think Manchester City is a fantastic team with a fantastic coach and fantastic players. I don’t think it’s a surprise for Pep that they’ve had a dip.

"You never know when the dip is coming but you know that not one team in the world can consistently just win year after year.

"It’s impossible, especially in the best league in the world.

"What they’ve done for the last four years shouldn’t be possible, it’s hugely impressive and he will go again."

With 18 fixtures still to play, Frank also discussed what City could achieve during the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.

"This City team now are very aware that they need to at least secure the Champions League spots," he added.

"They will definitely want to win every match until the end of the season to compete [for the title].

“By the end of the season, they may have won the FA Cup and the Champions League, you don’t know."
