Gérald Baticle is set to succeed Thierry Henry as France U21 manager, according to reports from Le Parisien and L’Equipe. Baticle was Henry’s deputy coach and the favorite to replace the Arsenal and France legend. Henry resigned from his post, citing personal reasons, despite having signed a contract with the French FA set to expire in 2025. The French FA’s Executive Committee will convene this Friday morning to announce Baticle as Henry’s successor in Les Bleuets‘ dugout.
Henry reportedly advised the French FA to hand Baticle the hot seat. Former Manchester City and Arsenal centre-back Gaël Clichy is also set to retain his position as France U21 assistant coach. Baticle will make its France U21 managerial debut against Slovenia on September 6 as part of France’s campaign to qualify for the 2025 UEFA Under-21 European Championships.
