Germany came from 1-0 down at half-time to thrash Scotland 6-1 in the UEFA Nations League.

For 45 minutes, the visitors could be forgiven for thinking they may stage an upset against the Germans.

Caroline Weir showed that the Scots had confidence when she stung the palms of Ann-Katrin Berger within the first 20 seconds.

The Scots took the lead five minutes before the break when a quick break led to Kirsty Hanson having a shot that was saved by Berger with Weir able to convert from close range.

However, the second half could not have been more different. Selina Cerci equalised in the 51st minute when she headed in from a corner that Scotland had conceded after being caught out playing out from the back.

Germany made it 2-1 in the 56th minute when a headed effort bounced off the bar allowing Cerci to slide it and find the net on the rebound.

The goals began to flow after the hour mark, Giovanna Hoffmann bagged a quick-fire brace before a fifth German goal that was a really classy effort when Sydney Lohmann's low cross was back-heeled into the net by Laura Freigang.

Cerci completed her hat-trick and made it 6-1 in the 76th minute with a superb strike that went to underline the difference in quality between the two sides.

That result allows Germany to build-up a healthy goal difference in the Nations League and top the group while Scotland remain bottom with zero points from four games.
