Girona are on the verge of signing former Espanyol midfielder David López on a free transfer, as reported by Marca.
Previously it was believed that the defensive midfielder would join Getafe, however, the opportunity to play for Girona would allow the Catalan player to stay close to home and continue playing in La Liga.
Since returning to Espanyol in 2016, López has nearly made 200 appearances for the Barcelona-based outfit, including captaining the side on many occasions and playing in their 2019/20 Europa League campaign.
The 32-year-old was released by the Blanquiazules at the end of last season and has been looking to play for a club at the highest level of Spanish football.
In addition to bringing years of experience, López can be deployed both as a centre-back or in midfield.
Girona are also close to agreeing to sign Taty Castellanos from New York City and Yan Couto from Manchester City on loan in a bid to try stay up in La Liga this coming season.
