Former Arsenal star Martin Keown has been speaking about Cole Palmer and has made a confident claim about the Chelsea star.

Palmer has taken the Premier League by storm following his move from Manchester City on deadline day in the summer of 2023 for £42.5m.

He’s picked up what feels like almost every award going and was named Premier League Young Player of the Year in his first season of regular football after scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists.

Keown makes Palmer claim

Chelsea have so much talent, especially in the attacking areas which they further strengthened with the additions of Joao Felix, Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto in the summer.

Despite others contributing this season it still very much feels like Palmer is the main man, and he already has seven goals and five assists in nine games.

He’s very much picked up where he left off last season and Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has tipped him to be a future Ballon d’Or winner.

Cole Palmer’s celebrates after scoring the winner against Newcastle.

Palmer is playing centrally this season in a number ten role and that is suiting him very well, something Enzo Maresca deserves credit for given he spent the majority of last season playing on the right.

Given the amount of money Chelsea have spent it’s very hard to argue against Palmer being the club’s best signing, which is something Keown absolutely agrees with.

“They [Chelsea] have spent a bucket full of money,” he told talkSPORT.

“He is by far their best player, among what is a very good squad of players. He’s standing out every week.”

It’s very rare that Palmer doesn’t impact a game and even when he has a quiet game, like against Liverpool at Anfield he tends to respond in the next game.

Having caused Newcastle problems in the league with a brilliant performance in which he scored the winner, he will be looking to inflict more pain on the Magpies on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup.
