It was this afternoon confirmed that Trevoh Chalobah has had his loan to Crystal Palace terminated, and will now return to Chelsea for the remainder of the season to become an “important player” once again for his boyhood team.

An interesting move itself, it also means a world of knock on effects for other defenders currently in the squad.

As Ben Jacobs pointed out in his Tweet immediately following the move, this frees up Axel Disasi to be sold off this month. He notes Newcastle and Juventus as potentially interested, and we heard reports earlier this morning that Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen are also potentially in the mix.

Any Disasi sale can now move ahead, all systems go.

Josh Acheampong trains for Chelsea in preseason.

While Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are still out, we back Trevoh to step into the team alongside Levi Colwill pretty soon. The fact we don’t have a game until next Monday means a great chance for Trevoh to have a bit of time training with his new old teammates. I wonder if Chelsea regret not taking him on the preseason tour now? It would certainly make integrating him now much easier…

It’s bad news for Josh Acheampong, who has started our last two league games at centre back but was taken off yesterday after struggling a little. Still, he should still get chances at both right back and centre back in our rotated cup teams.

Tosin has impressed at times, but the fact he was dropped for Acheampong in the first place shows Maresca doesn’t love him. We would expect Chalobah to quickly earn his place in the side ahead of Tosin pretty fast – which is precisely why we said that we should have stuck with the academy product instead of signing the former Fulham defender at all.
