Chris Wood scores goals - it’s just what he does.
With over 150 efforts finding the back of the net over the course of his career, the New Zealand international has proven himself to be a prolific marksman for any of the clubs he has plied his trade for.
Currently at Nottingham Forest, the Kiwi has earned three promotions during his time in England into the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City, as well as winning the third tier title with Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2011.
Having scored goals in the top three divisions, Wood has got himself on the scoresheet against more than 50 clubs in the country, but none more so than Huddersfield Town.
The Terriers have come up against the powerful striker 16 times across the years for seven different clubs, and whatever colours he is wearing he always seems to make his mark against the Yorkshire side.
The first time the two were acquainted was back in the 2009/10 season, when West Bromwich Albion drew Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup third round.
Wood’s career at The Hawthorns was struggling to get going at this moment in time - with just one goal to his name ahead of the cup game - before he put the game to bed with the second in a 2-0 victory after coming off the substitutes’ bench.
It would be a sign of things to come for when the Kiwi came up against Town, with Terriers fans more than used to seeing him wheel away in celebration over the course of the next decade or more.
Not that he had it all his own way though, with his next meetings in the blue and white stripes of Brighton ended up in defeats, with the striker unable to trouble the scorers on either occasion.
As was often the case with Wood at that time in his career, a new season often meant a new club, and 2012/13 saw him don the shirt of Millwall for the start of the campaign, and he more than made amends with a brace in a 4-0 thrashing at The Den.
With the second-half of the season spent with Leicester City after making a permanent move to the King Power Stadium in the January transfer window, the nomadic striker finally had a place to call home.
No matter who he called his teammates, the story was the same against Huddersfield, with another brace in the second half of that same season contributing to a 6-1 thumping, before grabbing another in an FA Cup game weeks later.
Five goals in one season against the Terriers really hammered home the forward’s capability of battering and bruising Championship defenders, although it often helped if they were wearing blue and white shirts and called Yorkshire home.
With the Foxes earning promotion to the top flight, Wood was once again on the move, with Leeds United taking the opportunity to have him leading the line.
Goals against county rivals are all the more sweeter, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if that’s what tempted Wood into making the move to Elland Road, with his customary goal at the John Smith’s Stadium coming in a 3-0 victory for the Whites early in the campaign.
That would prove to be the only time he tasted victory against the Terriers while in Yorkshire though, with Huddersfield taking home the points in each of the next three meetings Wood featured in; although he did get another goal to add to his collection in a 2-1 defeat in the fourth of those fixtures.
His 27 league goals that season weren’t enough to earn his side promotion, but he did find his way into the Premier League via a move to Burnley; and has since gone on to terrorise defenders in the top tier for the Clarets, as well as Newcastle United and now Nottingham Forest.
Huddersfield's fleeting visit to the top flight in the last decade gave Wood another opportunity to grab another goal against his most-favoured opponents, and he did at the fourth time of asking; netting the equaliser in a 2-1 victory for his side at the John Smith's Stadium.
Now finding himself on loan at Nottingham Forest, Wood was a regular on the scoresheet in the 2023/24 campaign before injury struck midway through the season, leaving his team-mates to battle it out for top flight survival without him.
A reunion with Town could be on the cards in the second tier next season if things don’t go Forest’s way, and we all know normal service will be resumed against Town if Wood gets back to his defence-dominating best.
