Hull City are not keen on selling midfielder Greg Docherty in a blow to interested League One duo Charlton Athletic and Bristol Rovers, as reported by Hull Live.
Hull have impressed this season by not only being away from the relegation zone but firmly in a fight for a place in the play-offs.
That is down to the work that manager Liam Rosenior has put into the club, with his recruitment in the summer being spot on and how well he’s got the side playing.
Given the position they find themselves in, Hull could well be busy again this month, as Rosenior will want to improve his side to keep their momentum going but new arrivals often mean outgoings as well.
Docherty has been with Hull City since 2020, and when he joined the club, he instantly became a firm fixture in their starting XI.
But this season, the midfielder has found himself on the sidelines, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, there has been speculation about his future.
It was reported by Sunday Sports Mirror editor Darren Witcoop, that League One duo Charlton and Bristol Rovers are interested in signing Docherty, but could face competition from teams in Scotland.
However, the latest update from Hull Live has revealed the Tigers are not keen on selling the midfielder this month, as they’ve lost Jean Michael Seri and Adama Traore on AFCON duty.
The two players leaving have left Hull a little short in the midfield department, and according to this latest report, that means they are reluctant to sell Docherty, despite the transfer interest.
As mentioned, Docherty has been on the books at Hull since the summer of 2020, when he joined from Scottish side Rangers.
The 27-year-old was instantly a firm fixture in the starting XI for the Tigers, and he even chipped in with a few goals and assists.
However, towards the end of last season, Docherty started to lose his place in the Hull team, with Rosenior preferring other players.
That situation has continued into this campaign, with Docherty starting none of the 10 games he’s played in the Championship.
His only start for the club came in their FA Cup game against Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.
It appears clear that Docherty doesn’t have a central part to play in Rosenior's plans and if he doesn’t leave this month, he will surely depart when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.
However, if Hull can manage to bring in another midfielder this month, then the Tigers should look at moving Docherty on as soon as possible, as it doesn’t benefit them to keep him at the club to sit on the bench and it doesn’t benefit the player.
The 27-year-old will want to start playing regular football again, and either Charlton or Bristol Rovers could be perfect destinations for the midfielder.
