FLW West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess has urged the Baggies to move club captain Jed Wallace on during the January transfer window.

West Bromwich Albion are likely set for a busy January transfer window, with both incomings and outgoings expected to help continue their push for promotion back to the Premier League.

After an impressive start to the campaign that saw the Baggies reach the summit of the Championship table, a barren run of 10 draws from their last 11 Championship games has left the Midlands outfit narrowly outside the play-off places and nine points off an automatic promotion spot after 19 games played.

As the hectic festive schedule approaches in the second tier, Carlos Corberan will be hoping his side can stay in the promotion mix when they head into the January transfer window, with business conducted in the new year likely to have a significant effect on where the club will finish come the end of the season.

It has been reported that despite Shilen Patel’s takeover of the club, Albion remain close to breaching Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR), and more cost cutting measures are imminent.

From this, it’s likely the Black Country outfit will have to sell to buy during the upcoming window, and FLW’s West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess has sounded out a senior figure that the club should consider cutting ties with.

Jed Wallace’s time at West Brom could be up come January 2025

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess has said Albion should be looking at moving on club captain Jed Wallace, with the former Millwall man struggling for a consistent run of game-time at The Hawthorns this term.

Burgess told Football League World: “Despite being one of the senior professionals at the club and someone who has a great attitude to be a club captain, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jed Wallace has become frustrated with his new role at the club.

“I’ve previously spoken about how Tom Fellows has solidified his place in the team and how over the last year, Wallace has become more of a bit-part player at most and is restricted to around 20 minutes off the bench when he plays for us.

“On the rare occasions when he does start, he’s failed to make much of an impact, so I expect in January or next summer for Wallace to move elsewhere to play consistent football in the final years of his career.”

Burgess admitted the 30-year-old could still be an effective asset for teams in the Championship despite a long-standing plummet of form in the second tier.

Callum added: “He (Wallace) might still have something to show for a bottom-half Championship side, where managers might think they can get the best out of him from his Millwall days and give him the responsibility back of being a key player, so some teams may see that as an opportunity to take him on.

“Wallace has been a great figure to have at Albion, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to move away in the near future.”

A Jed Wallace January exit from West Brom may be best for all parties

It’s hardly surprising to see Albion fans wanting to wave goodbye to Wallace during the January transfer window, given the winger hasn’t contributed anything substantial in a blue and white shirt so far this season.

Wallace has failed to register an attacking contribution in the 14 Championship games he’s featured in for the Baggies and is unlikely to force his way back into the first team setup with academy graduate Tom Fellows continuing to establish himself as a household name at The Hawthorns.

These factors are an indication that Wallace’s Albion career could be coming to an end in the very near future, with fellow Championship outfits Luton Town and one of Wallace’s former employers in Portsmouth, registering an interest earlier in the summer for his services.

If the money received for Wallace will strictly go towards player investment, then West Brom seriously have to consider offloading a player who is really struggling to produce the goods at The Hawthorns, but that's not to say he can't be someone who can make an impact for one of Albion's second tier rivals, as he's likely to still be playing at that level if he departs.
