Matheus Fernandes believes Juan Larios should be given a few Premier League opportunities at least before his expected summer exit.
Believe it or not, within the next few months, we will have a whole new Southampton FC. By choice or by force, many key players will leave, and fresh young talents will arrive.
In fact, one may expect an even bigger squad overhaul than Southampton did ahead of the 2022/23 season.
But, this time the Saints must learn from their previous mistakes. And that's where the role of existing young squad men becomes quite crucial.
Now, you might wonder, why focus only on them? This is because, in Southampton's new setup, nothing can be better than a core of familiar names, already present at the club.
Thankfully, Saints players seem to understand this too. How do I know? Well, because of Mateus Fernandes' recent words through which he put forward Juan Larios' name for frequent Premier League opportunities now that he's on his recovery route.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Fernandes said: "He is a very good player and a very good guy. He needs some minutes and I think he can play with us."
If you still don’t grasp the significance of Fernandes' words, let me break it down. Well, with this request, Fernandes is helping secure Southampton's future in multiple ways.
Southampton’s Premier League survival hopes are already out of reach. Now, if they even test out youngsters like Larios' it won't be a disaster.
