Juventus are in advanced talks to sign Alberto Costa, as they surpassed the competition to acquire him from Vitoria Guimaraes over the weekend. He has been linked to a host of clubs, primarily Sporting CP and Brighton.
According to Alfredo Pedullà, the Bianconeri believe to have basically sealed the deal for €12M through a five-year payment. Coming to terms with the entourage of the defender wasn’t difficult. He’ll earn €750k per year if the transfer comes to fruition.
Alberto Costa popped up on the Juventus radar out of the blue while their execs were tending to their other pursuits. They consider him a highly-rated prospect worth an investment. He has scored once and provided 3 assists in 20 matches across all competitions this campaign.
The 21-year-old has spent the entirety of his career at Vitoria Guimaraes. It’s his first season as a full-fledged member of the first team. He has two caps with Portugal U-20.
In the meantime, the Old Lady might have endured a blow in their Ronald Araujo chase. Inigo Martinez suffered a thigh injury during the Spanish Super Cup. The Uruguayan center-back replaced him in the first half of the clash with Real Madrid and was handed the captain’s armband by his teammates.
It’s not a huge need because Nicolò Savona has been rock-solid, but they can’t have just one pure right-back on the squad. They hastily ousted Danilo, and they had their reasons, but his versatility came in handy. They have had more success with quick and midsized deals than with pricey signings after long sagas with Cristiano Giuntoli at the helm.
