Aston Villa have now picked up three wins in a row after beating Brentford 1-0 in the Premier League on Saturday away from home.
Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the match as Villa picked up all three points to climb to seventh in the league table.
Morgan Rogers thought he had given Villa a two-goal advantage when he finished a great move from close range, but it was ruled offside after a VAR check.
Rodgers has been sensational for Unai Emery’s side, and he received a lot of praise from former Villa player turned Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie.
Hendrie says that the 22-year-old has been a “real find” for Villa and that the attacking midfielder has been “absolutely phenomenal” for his club.
“I was really skeptical about what direction he will bring to the football club and could he take that step up. He has been absolutely phenomenal.”
Villa will face Club Brugge in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League in their next game. They have taken a healthy 3-1 lead in the first-leg and should be able to see off their opponent to reach the last eight.
Villa signed Rogers from Middlesbrough in the January window of 2024 for a fee of around £8 million, which could eventually be worth £16m if all add-ons are met. He has been simply terrific for the club.
This season, Rogers has scored 12 goals in all competitions and provided five assists, but his contributions to the side go beyond that.
Villa have been very inconsistent in the Premier League this season, and that needs to change if they want to qualify for the Champions League next season.
They are two points behind Manchester City, having played a game more. Villa must aim to win most of their remaining nine games to give themselves a strong chance of finishing in the top four.
