Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris is keen on adding to his attacking options before the 11pm deadline tonight.

Sunderland have been working on multiple options among whom were former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom and Liverpool’s young forward Jayden Danns.

While the Danns deal still looks to be on the cards, Akpom has since joined Lille from Ajax.

Yet another name has been added to that list in the form of Southampton striker Armstrong, who has also been the subject of interest from Leeds on deadline day.

Armstrong has been a key member of the Southampton side this season and has made four goal contributions in 20 league matches.

The Back Cats have still made an ambitious approach but the player’s intention is not to join a club that are direct rivals to his boyhood club Newcastle United.

Whether that leaves the door open for Leeds is unclear, with the clock ticking.

Armstrong started his career at the Tyneside club before leaving them in 2018.
