Sheffield United have offered £7m to Leicester City, for their striker Tom Cannon. The bid came while Cannon is still on loan at Stoke City.
Leicester City are often tight-lipped about their finances and their transfer business. In some ways, this can be a good thing considering they will keep their edge in the transfer window. However, a lot of the time, it can be frustrating for fans who are crying out for just a little bit of information.
Well, there has been movement for a Leicester City player. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the movement has occurred for a player who wasn't playing at the King Power Stadium at the time. Nothing's ever smooth-sailing for the Foxes, is it?
According to a report from Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider, Sheffield United have stepped up their interest for Tom Cannon, formerly on loan at Stoke City, and have even lodged a £7m transfer bid.
In order for the deal to push through, the Blades needed Leicester to recall Tom Cannon from his loan spell at Stoke - Something the Foxes did today, after Sheffield United made their intentions clear. Now, Leicester have the freedom to accept the £7m bid, should they wish to do so.
Given Leicester's battle with Profit and Sustainability Rules, which seems to have occurred for an aeon now, the £7m boost to their transfer kitty might come in handy. After all, it's £7m they wouldn't have had otherwise.
Cannon tore it up on loan at the Potters. He slowly become a first-team staple for Stoke, so it was a blow for them to lose Cannon.
However, with his keen knack for scoring goals, Cannon has also picked up his fair share of potential suitors. Sheffield United aim to move one step ahead of their competition, having already made their first action for Cannon.
Sheffield United seemed like dead-certs to be promoted back to the Premier League. They had a high-flying start to life in the second tier, even despite their points deduction. However, in recent games, their form has petered out.
That said, Southampton would like to add some firepower to their front-line. With Cannon proven in the Championship already, he is a no-brainer signing for the Blades.
It is also worth noting that Sheffield United brought back Ben Brereton Diaz from Southampton in the January transfer window too.
