Villarreal edged out Valencia at the weekend to claim a third consecutive win and move seven points clear of the bottom two. At the top end of the table, Barcelona dispatched Sevilla to maintain their 100% record in Liga F this season.

Liga F: Levante Las Planas 1-1 Eibar

Ane Campos put Eibar in front in the ninth minute with a sensational long-range effort. The forward made a sweet connection with a bouncing ball to send her looping half-volley over Nayluisa Cáceres and into the net. The visitors appeared to be heading towards three points until Jessica Martínez produced her own impressive strike, firing an unstoppable free-kick into the top corner to salvage a point for her side.

Valencia 0-1 Villarreal

Villarreal continued their impressive run of form with a narrow victory over Valencia. Kayla McKenna scored the decisive goal just after the half-hour mark. The Jamaica international rose high to steer the ball beyond Antonia Canales from Nerea Pérez’s lofted cross. The visitors ultimately stood firm for the remainder of the contest to claim a third consecutive victory. While Villarreal are in 11th position, Valencia are three points adrift in 12th spot following their fourth defeat in the last five league games.

Sevilla 0-3 Barcelona

After losing 8-0 to Barcelona in Wednesday’s Copa de la Reina tie, Sevilla may have taken some comfort from the fact they restricted the Catalan giants to three goals, especially after conceding inside the opening 20 minutes. Clàudia Pina produced a precise finish from the edge of the box to score her third goal in Barcelona’s last two league games. The league leaders had to wait until the 71st minute to double their advantage through Caroline Graham Hansen. Mariona Caldentey quickly added a third with a strike into the bottom corner to round off another comfortable victory for the European champions.

Liga F: Real Sociedad 1-1 Granada

Granada picked up a useful point in their fight to retain their top-flight status. Carlota Suárez pounced on Elene Lete’s loose pass to fire the visitors into the lead in the 71st minute. Real Sociedad quickly hit back through Synne Jensen, who scored her 11th league goal of the season. The Norway international latched onto a long pass over the top to poke the ball past the onrushing Sandra Estévez. The draw moved Granada to within two points of safety, while the hosts rounded off the weekend in seventh position.

Levante 1-0 Costa Adeje Tenerife

Levante bounced back from a midweek defeat in the Copa de la Reina to edge out Tenerife in Sunday’s home contest in Liga F. The hosts broke the deadlock in the closing stages of the first half when Nataša Andonova pounced on a loose ball to poke home from close range. Levante ultimately stood firm in the second period to record back-to-back 1-0 victories in Liga F. As a result, the third-placed side now enjoy a four-point lead over Madrid CFF. Tenerife are in ninth position after failing to win any of their last six league matches.

Real Betis 1-4 Real Madrid

After playing out a goalless first period, Real Madrid took the lead just before the hour mark. Caroline Møller stuck out a right boot to steer the ball home from Signe Bruun’s deep cross. The former Lyon striker then put her name on the scoresheet to put the visitors in complete control. Athenea del Castillo continued the scoring when she cut inside and drove a low strike past the helpless Paula Vizoso. Carla Ermengol pulled a goal back for the hosts, before Del Castillo netted her second of the game to wrap up Real Madrid’s fifth consecutive league win.

Liga F: Atlético de Madrid 1-1 Madrid CFF

Atlético Madrid were held to a draw in Sunday’s home meeting. Eva Navarro gave Atleti an early lead when she latched onto Rasheedat Ajidbade’s pass, before sliding the ball into the bottom corner. After falling behind, Madrid CFF provided a quick response from a set-piece. Karen Araya’s corner found the near-post run of Aldana Cometti, who produced a glancing header to beat Lola Gallardo in the Atleti goal. With neither side able to find a winner in the remaining 70 minutes, the two European hopefuls had to settle for a share of the spoils. Madrid CFF remain in fourth position and two points clear of Atleti in fifth spot.

Sporting de Huelva 1-2 Athletic Club

Patricia Zugasti slotted past Zala Meršnik to get Athletic up and running in the early stages of Sunday’s away meeting with Huelva. The hosts looked set to go into the break on level terms when Raiderlin Carrasco hooked the ball beyond Adriana Nanclares in the 43rd minute. However, Athletic immediately restored their slender advantage through Nahikari García. The forward headed home from Nerea Nevado’s inviting delivery to give the visitors a half-time lead. With Huelva unable to find an equaliser in the second period, Athletic could celebrate their first away league win of the calendar year.
