Paris Saint-Germain initially took a short-term approach by loaning Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for another season. Still, with his future more settled after the German club made the move permanent, the question is where he will go long-term as the summer months approach.

A new report raises concerns about Simons’ attitude at Leipzig, suggesting PSG may have avoided a potential headache. However, with a sell-on clause, the French club can still benefit from any future transfer.

According to a previous report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United could have an advantage over Manchester City in signing Simons next summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Simons officially joined Leipzig on a permanent deal worth €80 million, including add-ons. The initial fee is €55 million, with a sell-on clause included.

Why Man Utd are unlikely to pursue Xavi Simons

TEAMtalk reported on Friday, citing sources, that Manchester United admire Simons and are among several Premier League and European clubs interested in the attacking midfielder.

However, with the club navigating tight PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules) constraints, their priority is strengthening other areas, particularly finding a new No. 9. That makes a move for Simons unlikely unless there are significant departures to free up funds.

Leipzig could demand as much as €80 million for Simons, depending on how many bonuses have been paid to PSG by then.

For now, Manchester United’s primary focus remains securing a striker, with director of recruitment Christopher Vivell and technical director Jason Wilcox leading the search.
