Globo Esporte has claimed that Manchester City are showing interest in Palmeiras winger Wesley this summer. It has also been mentioned that ‘the group who manages Manchester City,’ i.e. the City Football Group could make a move to acquire the services of the Brazilian youngster soon. Even though the Mancunian outfit is yet to contact the Brazilian club, yet they have registered their interest via the player’s agent Paulo Pitombeira, who also represents Gabriel Jesus (via Globo Esporte).
The 21-year-old has only made three appearances for Palmeiras but is still waiting to score his first goal for the Brazilian club. He has received a total of 84 minutes of game time but has only featured in one match in the Brazilian Serie A thus far.
Wesley broke on to the scene back in the 2018-19 Serie B campaign when he found the back of the net five times and grabbed three assists in 28 matches while on loan at Vitoria SC. The early signs have been quite promising from him, but it remains to be seen whether he can prove his worth in the Brazilian top-flight this season.
The Brazilian starlet is incredibly versatile in the offensive end of the field. He is primarily a left-sided wide player, but can also operate on the other flank or as a centre-forward down the middle. His outstanding versatility, coupled with his technical qualities, would make a great addition to Man City’s world-class academy ahead of the new season.
Wesley is a highly skilful winger who can be quite tricky to cope with for the opposition defenders out on the wide areas. He can make some excellent runs with the ball and is accustomed to creating some decent chances to score for his teammates inside the opponent’s penalty box. The Brazilian wonderkid can also be a potent goal-threat from the left flank, but is still quite raw and would need time to hone his skills so that he can be a top-class winger someday.
At 21, Wesley has established himself as one of the brightest prospects in Brazilian football. However, he is not good enough to play for Pep Guardiola’s senior team at the moment. If Man City are willing to be patient with his development, then they should consider launching a move for the player this summer.
Wesley’s ceiling is sky-high as he could end up becoming a world-class player in his position as long as he can improve his game with each year. He is undeniably a prospect to look out for in the future and might turn out to be an ideal long-term acquisition for the Mancunian giants in this off-season.
